i walked down zülpicher straße towards luxemburger and at this point of the year streets in cologne are filled with people; everybody's trying to catch the first warm rays of light. the problem with this p.o.t.y. is, that there are far too many men presenting their white skin in the sun, wearing nothing else than purple (or any other colour of your disgust) slips. believe me: there is nothing worse than seing a man in hie 40s, scratching the balls packed in his purple slip!

after a short chat i decided to go inside. who's that guy? ah, ok: it's ebbot lundbergat, singer of the incredible the soundtrack of our lives who was doing some club-hopping (they were playing just across the road).
inside rose club chikinki were just starting with their last song. i thought it might be a good idea to move more to the front of the stage because i was interested, how big the stage in fact was. it turned out to be a tiny something of a stage, leaving that "five piece electrobeat band" (self-description on their homepage) just enough space to move a bit to the sides. actually, they would have had plenty of room, if they would have stepped one foot towards the audience: the circle around the stage was big enough to show the band, that the audience wasn't happy with a "five piece electrobeat band" and i wasn't either. their songs sounded boring, the sound itself was way much too loud and the singer of the band was making some poor attempts pretending to dance-off and go crazy because of the "wicked show experience". rubbish, and i'm on my way out again.
when vhs or beta kicked off a while ago, it was kind of the same. four guys pretending living in the 80s, the singer is robert smith and the rest of the band plays some electronica-pumped guitar-dance-stuff. it's somehow getting boring with these post-punk-bands, but to be homest: i heard this band a couple of months ago and i didn't like them back then. the problem with vhs or beta seems to be, that they are 5 months too late. their label-promoter gave me a call on tuesday, asking if there might be any interest for an interview with the band. besides that he woke me up after a long night (no! working, not drinking) i had to tell him what i think about the band and he sounded, as if he was thinking in a similar way about them...
after the third song, pascal and i decided to jump across the street to the prime club where the soundtracks were supposed to play.

then the soundtrack of our lives climbed the stage and ended the little playbacked intro with "believe i've found", the first song off their latest full-length "origin vol. 1". that was the one song i kicked off the radio show today with. it's a fantastic great tune, tight as hell though it's totally poppy with it's little huhuu-chorus line. and this song worked live as well as on record (i think that saying works better when you say it in german...): the people were behind the band from the first second onwards. bigups after each song, people in the first row that could sing each line along and a really great atmosphere in the packed prime club. it was a pretty tough thing finding my way to the toilets through this crowd and i decided to stay a bit closer to the stage after returning. i took some pictures, sang a bit along, nodded with head and knees and emptied my beer. after a couple of songs (8-10? can anybody help?) i left for the back of the club again.

maybe one sentence might be enough: the soundtrack of our lives are one of the most stunning rock'n'roll-bands on this side of heaven!
